Search the NPC, then match the story stage
Caine
- When
- During The Lost Apprentice
- Route
- Check Caine's hut near the weed mashers for the Abandoned Mine drawing. The quest trail then leads to his body deep inside the Abandoned Mine near the Exchange Zone.
- If missing
- Do not keep searching the Swamp Camp after the quest advances; follow the drawing and journal update.
Saturas
- When
- When the Water Mages' quarters are accessible
- Route
- Enter the rear Water Mages' area of the main cave. Saturas is usually in the lower library room, to the right after passing the guarded entrance.
- If missing
- If the guards refuse entry, advance the relevant chapter or faction dialogue instead of trying to bypass them.
Wolf
- When
- Most daytime routines
- Route
- Inside the main cave, climb to the upper residential level on the southwest side. Look for wooden walkways and a hut with a balcony.
- If missing
- Wait until daytime or search the nearby walkways; NPC routines can move him away from the doorway.
Sharky
- When
- Often easiest to find in the afternoon
- Route
- Descend into the main cave and follow the right-hand route near the mine pit. Look for a blue awning, a large wheel fixed to the wall, and a nearby campfire.
- If missing
- Wait until roughly mid-afternoon and return to the campfire if his routine has taken him elsewhere.
Torrez
- When
- Daytime; routine changes after The Price of Magic
- Route
- Before his quest moves him, search the cloth-awning market in the south or southwest of the camp, near Fisk, Dexter, and Mordrag. Later, check the chapel area inside the castle.
- If missing
- Use the quest state to choose which location to search; waiting alone will not undo his story move.
Santino
- When
- Location changes after the Old Mine floods
- Route
- Early on, find his trading stand just past the wooden bridge at the Old Mine entrance. After the mine is lost, look for his replacement shop above Fisk's store in the Old Camp.
- If missing
- Search by story phase rather than returning to the abandoned mine entrance.
Landmark-first navigation
The Colony is designed without a minimap and its characters have routines. These entries therefore describe gates, bridges, awnings, cave levels, and quest phases. A pin without the routine would be less useful than the route.
Search and story phase
Use the local filter to narrow the list. Entries such as Caine and Santino deliberately show two stages because continuing to search their old location after the story moves them wastes time.
When waiting works
Waiting can bring a trader or trainer back to a daytime work area. It cannot reopen a guarded Water Mage section or return an NPC to a location abandoned by the story. Follow the recovery line before assuming the game is bugged.
